Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theater

1/24/2008:

Has anyone checked out the Landmark Loew’s theater in Jersey City?

I’ve heard hearing so much about it over the past few years, and it’s definitely on my list of places to investigate this year.

February 1st and 2nd, they’ll be featuring a few of Orson Wells movie classics. Might be fun, right?

“It is a not-for-profit arts center that goes beyond the classical performing arts to embrace and showcase “the art of American entertainment” — the music, plays and movies that continue to shape and chronicle the American experience. It is a venue for concerts, touring musicals and children’s programs. It presents performances by artists representing the 50-plus ethnic groups living in Jersey City because American entertainment brings our diverse peoples together by embracing and melding their unique performing traditions. And the Loew’s also emphasizes the appreciation and enjoyment of classic and independent film because “the movies” are the most ubiquitous artistic medium of all time. “Going to the movies” is the way many people, especially young people, first encounter the glory of the various performing arts and discover the power of the art of American entertainment in their own lives.”

I need to get out of Hoboken every now and then.

This place is off the hook. I saw Beck and Decemberists there last year. Great acoustics, amazing visual experience to just be in the lobby! So easy to get to, right across the street from the PATH. DO NOT HESITATE, GO!!

Yes it is. When you come up from the Journal Square Path station you see the theatre across the street with its marquee in lights.

I am a big Orson Welles fan and “A TOUCH OF EVIL” should NOT be missed. It is playing at 8:40 on this Saturday, February 2. This 1958 film celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1998 and a new print was made from the negative and boasts beautifully restored, razor-sharp images. The black and white cinematography is unforgettable.
