Hoboken Movie Lineup: 3/21/2014

Bow Tie Cinemas Movie Times Hoboken NJ

Bow Tie Cinemas Hoboken NJ Movie TimesNew this week is Divergent – starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James (who are these people?)

Despite bad reviews like this: “With action scenes that can’t raise a pulse, an predictable chaste romance, and plodding, formulaic expansion of its mythology, Divergent has the drab sogginess of something reheated,” many people still apparently want to see it (fans of the book for sure – plus the 10+ million YouTube views…)

You ever wonder what kind of “social conditioning” message they’re trying to send? Movies like Hunger Games had a similar “societal” categorization, etc. Wonder what the next big series of movies like this will be…

When will Bow-Tie Cinemas realize that the main demographic in Hoboken isn’t tennyboppers and toddlers, but young to middle age professionals who want more movie options other than the typical Hollywood blockbuster fare?

I mean, look at what’s currently playing in the middle of March: two children’s movies (Muppets and Mr. Peabody), three replaceable action flicks (300, Non-Stop and Need for Speed) and one teenybopper film (Divergent).

Why aren’t highly reviewed and smart films like The Grand Budapest Hotel playing (or films from earlier in the year like Her, Inside Llewyn Davis and Nebraska), or even smaller independent films like Nymphomaniac given at least a limited run?

There is definitely an audience for these movies in Hoboken. I certainly like a mindless movie escape every now and then, but I also like options, and I thought when this theater opened up, residents would have access to a variety of film choices, not just the same movies playing at every other cineplex.

These days, I’m finding myself having to travel into NYC more and more to see movies. I’ve written to Bow-Tie directly about this, and I encourage others to do so as well. Their e-mail address is comments@bowtiecinemas.com (https://www.bowtiecinemas.com/connect/).
