Street fight at Hoboken High

1/10/2008:

I doubt they were brawling over who will die first, Artie or Britney, but it was reported moments ago that there was a large street fight occurring in front of the Hoboken High School.

Gosh, those pesky kids. Can’t they go to the gym or help clean up the city with that excess energy?

im sorry but high school kids are going to fight. i really find it petty for whomever wrote this bulletin saying “why cant these pesky kids clean the town up with their excess energy” TEENAGERS FIGHT. i know the yuppies in this town hate families but for generations hoboken was a family town where everyone knew one another, from the time you were born until you were married and had your own kids. It’s a shame that now the citizens of hoboken say such ridicules things. Get over it.

My tax bill and the sheer amount per student that is wasted on the schools (almost entirely on a bloated school workforce) is what sets my teeth on edge. I grew up in a suburban/city environment and the kids in Hoboken are no different than there. But for some reason we spend 2-3x the amount per pupil that my old school district spends and get p*ss poor results. That is NOT the fault of the kids. I blame the city council, the voters, the mayor, the workers and pretty much everyone who has held office and thought that the corrupt AND inefficient practices of the status quo was acceptable.
Most of us don’t mind the schools at all, we mind the obscene amount of money spent on the schools. And the scary thing is, a large % of this money never makes it to the students. It is all spent on make-work jobs, paper pushers, superintendents that make outrageuos amounts of money, no-bid contracts, etc…. This is not something unique to Hoboken or to the school system but Hoboken is probably one of the worst offenders in the state. And it is also why NJ has one of the highest tax burdens and highest debt levels in the entire country. So don’t forget to thank your local politicians for screwing us over royally come election day!
Matt, that may be true for you, but the mere mention of HHS sets off a tidal wave of shit, not on the politians, but on the students. The kids. They are called every name in the book. They are the subject of racist comments, classist bullshit. Even thier humainty is questioned. I can’t believe that anyone here, even you, believes that these children are in any way responsible for the hiring practicies of this city.

I wish that the new people of Hoboken would know the Hoboken High School, that I have known. The success stories of these grads are endless.Just to name a few : a kid who grew up in the projects and grad of Hoboken High is the math teacher for the West Point cadets. The president of Con ED,is also a grad.My two son’s Doctor was also a grad.

A former grad received an Emmy for a daytime TV series. The person in charge of all CitiBanks computer systems in Japan was a grad. Then there is a guy who has been a president, and a member of the Board of Directors of various companies and a CFO in the insurance industry.

I could go on. But I want you to be aware of what that system did for us.

So trash the school on line ,but don’t do it in work as he or she could be a Hoboken grad and your boss.
